Curiosity killed the cat

I've just started reading Dracula for the first time in my life. Surprisingly I never read it when I was in high school, and I wanted to now. So far, it is very good and I am very impressed. I know that it is a young adult story, but I have always wanted to read it. Also I'm curious to know how is it that comic books can be sometimes the most insightful things in the world? I was reading from a collection of "Zits" comic books I have and in them the characters talk about the book "Ivanhoe" and insightful inquiries. Sometimes I must admit that I am baffled at how incredibly amazing some of these can be. Comics give us more than an escape, but also give us a time to think and reflect upon the real world.Take the Simpson's for example. In the cartoon, they cover many different forms of life. They range from religion, history, english, science, politics, etc. I find it amazing that all these things can be related into cartoon form and done so well. I applaud all the writer's of the show because it takes a lot of knowledge to be able to make that work, and do it for weeks on end every year. Plus another aspect is that all the characters in the Simpson family represent a different genre in society. I do believe that Springfield at times is a reflection of us all in our daily lives and we can relate to one of the characters sometime in our life. Along with Dracula, I'm going to read "Uncle Tom's Cabin" for the first time as well. I have always wanted to do so because it dealt with history. But more so now because this was, to use a cliche, the straw that broke the camel's back to start the Civil War (per se). I haven't started reading it yet, but I hear that it again was also read by some in high school. I do wonder sometimes if I was gypped out of not being able to read these stories in high school. Of course, I did read some classics, "Red Badge of Courage", "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn", "Heart of Darkness", "King Lear", "Catcher in the Rye", "Jane Eyre", "Hiroshima", "The Great Gatsby", "To Kill a Mockingbird", "The Count of Monte Cristo", and "Jane Eyre". I wish I could have read them because it would have been interesting to have a class discussion on them and see other people's opinions on them.

So I h...

So I had to be up at 5 the past two days in a row...NOT FUN!! Yesterday was to take education tests, which went ok. The only problem was when I was leaving, the LPGA tournament is in Havre de Grace at Bulle Rock Golf Club and getting out of Harford Community College was a pain. But I was able to avoid the traffic thankfully, it just was slow going for awhile. This morning was inventory at Bass. For some God-forsaken reason our manager decided that it would be a "good idea" to start inventory at 6 am. Let it be noted that this woman is 50ish and has no idea of the sleeping habits of her staff!! So there are 5 of us there this morning ranging in ages from 19-26, and WE were there before her. So at this moment I would like to send a big FUCK YOU out to all the people who think that us 20something kids are not responsible and will sleep through our commitments that the young staff was there before the manager! Also sometime in July I'm trying to get a group together to go down to the beach. If you would like to come, reply to this, send me an email, letter, carrier pigeon, or whatever method of contacting me is best. Basically if you can read, YOU'RE INVITED! So get back to me and I'll get you the details when they come together. In the words of the immortal Porky Pig: Hebb bib-a-bib-a-bib, That's All Folks!

Batman!

BatmanCongratulations! You scored a super 66%!

Cool, calm and powerful. Whilst your actual super abilities may not be anything too dazzling, you have earnt the respect of both friends and enemies in response to your amazing fighting skills, strategic combat and experience. Luckily you have access to the greens which can fund all your majorly cool gadgets, vehicles and weapons! Also, you're reluctant but still accepting to the idea of having a teammate/side-kick, which just makes everything a whole lotta fun, doesn't it now! On the down side, you've probably suffered some sort of trauma at a young age (that's why we don't talk to the old man near the swings, kids). Similar to the Wolverine, your past is a base for your current motivation, undertaking some kind of personal vow in search of justice. All in all though, you're one tough nut. There's not a lot of people who have the minerals to go up against you, and you're experienced enough not to get cocky and let the little things like never finding happiness get you down!

My test tracked 1 variable How you compared to other people your age and gender:

...

I perhaps had the greatest experience of my life today. At work, there is a girl who has had difficult times with guys and they have treated her horribly. She is not used to having nice things done for her, and when they are done for her, she almost goes into tears and is so happy to know that someone really cares about her. She has friends, but her friends also are not very true to her and sometimes treat her like crap. So one day, when she was sick, I called her and asked her how she was feeling, and she was so touched by that because someone actually showed they cared. Well since then, she has been very nice and open with me. The other day she wanted to hang out with me, and I did because I know she needed to talk. Well I'm glad I did because she seemed so happy to talk about everything and knowing that it wasn't going to come back and bite her in the ass. I found out today from my manager that she has been talking to her and that the girl is SO happy to have me to talk to and all. She feels that she can be honest with me and knows that I'm a true friend to her. Also, she is going to senior week in a few weeks and I gave her the "fatherly" talk, which even though she laughed at it, she was very touched I found out that I gave it to her. Also my manager told me that I should definitly stick around and be a good friend to her because she needs it. And I intend to do that because she just needs someone to talk to and trust, and I know I can do that. But I thought I would share all this info with you all because it definitly made me feel good and just smile because it showed that I can bring good to someones life.

Post ...

Post a comment telling me what you think my 3 best and worst qualities as a person are. Please be specific if you can, then post this meme in your journal and i will do the same for you. So far the summer has been good. I've been relaxing as well as trying to get work done on my Education portfolio and summer homework Dr. O'Connor gave us for the Ed Block. Also I'm working my usual job, so it's not too bad. The hours are good which means lots of money, which I'm very happy about. I haven't yet touched my thesis, but being that it's still May, that's ok. I already have an entire draft of it done, it's just revising parts that I know need to be fixed. I'll have to turn in a few copies here and there to Professor Striner so that he can look at it and make corrections. I'm hoping that by March or April of next year I can have it completely finished and not have to worry about it!! Anyway...that pretty much is my life in a nutshell at this point in time. Keep in touch everyone and let me know how your lives are going, especially those of you who have graduated.

Ok, ...

Ok, I think its time for me to go along with everyone else and put one of these in my journal.NUMBER OF BOOKS I OWN:Many! Though most of them are historical books dealing with the Civil War, World War I or World War II.LAST BOOK I BOUGHT:Probably a text book for my classes. Though for my birthday I got books from my Grandmother.LAST BOOK I READ:"102 Minutes" it was about the story of the Twin Towers. Telling about the people inside of them and what happened after the planes struck them on 9/11. It was a very good book, sad though.FIVE BOOKS THAT MEAN A LOT TO ME:1. Killer Angels (Micheal Shaara): This was the book that got me interested in Gettysburg and wanting to be in a career with history. I read it in 5th Grade and I've read it numerous times since. It's perhaps the greatest book I've ever read.2. Gods and Generals (Jeff Shaara): This is the prequel to Killer Angels. It tells the first two years of the Civil War and follows Stonewall Jackson on his campaigns. It gives a different side to the soldiers and is an excellent read as well.3. The Last Full Measure (Jeff Shaara): This is the end of the Civil War and tells what happens after Gettysburg. It shows the decline of the South and what General Grant and Lee go through throughout the remaining years and Appomattox. It isn't as good as the other two, but it still is an excellent read.4. Lord of the Rings Trilogy (J.R.R. Tolkien): What more can I say about these books? They are perhaps the greatest ones I have ever read and Tolkien has a great way of bringing all the characters and story to life. I was sad to see the Trilogy end because it was such a great read.5. Red Badge of Courage (Stephan Crane): Lol yes another Civil War book. Though I have many friends who thought this book was horrible, I thought it was excellent. It gave a look into the life of a soldier and how they would relate to one another. Of course I have many more I love, but I can only list five. So there ya go everybody!

Well I'm hom...

Well I'm home from WAC for the semester, and it is a little surreal. I can't believe that my Junior year is over and next year will be my Senior year and my last year at WAC. The Ed. Block is going to be a lot of work, but so so so much fun. Wednesday when we all were together it was perhaps the most fun I've had in a long time. We all just click so well and the night before was great! I love knowing that we can all yell at Jeopordy and Wheel of Fortune just because we think the people are goofy and saying the hosts are wrong. It definitely will be great! Especially when Dr. O'Connor sees us as a large family already. Well I just wanted to update and let y'all know what was going on. I'll talk to you all later and I'll be down at Graduation on Sunday so if you're there, definitely say hi!

So ...

So WAC is really horrible without people here. It also is very freaky too because I walked outside last night and looked at the dorms and all these rooms were dark and it looked strange and freaky, almost out of a horror movie. It also is strange seeing the parking lots so empty as well, it definitely shows that the vital signs of WAC are dying for the year. It definitely is sad too because a week ago at this time, though it was finals week, so many people were still here and the campus was still hopping. Now you look at it, and the squirrels are taking over where people once were.Thankfully though I get to leave on Wednesday after my education meetings. In a way I'll be glad to leave because just staying here with no one here is definitely very odd. But in another way I will be sad because it means that I won't be back here at WAC again for another 3 months. And the sad thing is, when I do come back, it will be for the last time. I'll be a Senior next year and thus it will be my last year at WAC. Sometimes it seems like I just was starting to fully adjust to life here and how things worked. But thus is the life of a transfer student who came in Spring semester of his Sophmore year. It definitely will be many memories of all the things that have gone on, and I'm definitely looking forward to it all! Anyway to all of you already on summer break and the others of you about to begin, have a great summer. I'll be updating this throughout the summer to keep you all "in the know" of what I'm doing. Everyone take care and be safe out there beyond the walls of WAC or whatever college you go to.

W...

Well I'm done officially with the Middle School for the semester now. I still have to go back on Monday and Tuesday to do some meetings and such, but I really don't get to see the kids. I thought at first I wouldn't miss it, but the kids definitely are some good kids. As much as I complained about some of them, there were a few that definitely were great and I will miss having in class and being able to joke around with them. I have pictures that I took today while there, so if you want to see any of them, let me know. Plus I definitely want to thank Rick Tubman for letting me go into his room and teach. I know at times I was very confused and not sure what to do, but he threw me into the fire and I think he was very happy with how I did. He always said great things about me and was a great guy to be under. I definitely will miss being with him because next fall I'll be with Ken Stein. Don't get me wrong, Stein is a nice guy, but Tubman and I just clicked and fed off of each other. Plus another person I will miss is Matt Windsor, who is the Math teacher in the 6th grade. He is going to leave for the year to try another career. But myself, Rick, and Matt were three peas in a pod and we had great times together. Lunch was the time that all three of us bonded and by the end of the semester, the three of us knew how we ticked and could read each others mind. So it will be sad to see that end.On the other hand though, this brings me to a new challenge which is working with a new group of people next fall. So I think personally this is good for me. It will help me get used to how things work in a school, which is good. I definitely feel that this has been a great experience for me and I like it alot. I got to teacher the kids, write the lesson plans, and so forth and I loved every minute of it. Lol to those of you at WAC, you heard me always talk about the kids and things going on, so I'm sorry for that. Also I am sorry because next fall I will be an even bigger ghost than I was this semester. But hey, its a lot of fun!! Anyway good luck to everyone over the summer, and enjoy yourselves!!!!

It feels ...

It feels so good to be done all my finals. I finished my last final today, all of them where take home finals, so that is why. I have to stick around WAC until the 18 for education stuff, so that's cool and all. So now I just get to relax and hang out, this is what college life is supposed to be about!! Relaxation!!!! Though I still have to go to the middle school and all, it's still awsome to just do nothing! I do have to write up a lesson plan on the Greeks, so any ideas on how to teach the middle school kids, would be welcomed ;-) Anyway now its time to relax!

http://mmtlc.badlydigital.com/art/Excalibur-movie-highres.htmlI highly recommend watching this site. It's a video some friends here at WAC made. It definitely is worth you're while if you watch it. It's a remake of Excalibur and done through Middle Hall, one of the dorms here on the WAC campus. So enjoy everybody.

It...

It's that time of year again...almost finals week and then we're moving out of here. It's crazy that the year is almost over. At times the year seemed to fly by and other times it just seemed to move so slowly. But a part of me will be sad to see this year end. It means that many of my friends will be graduating or leaving WAC and going to somewhere else. This is the first year where I know a lot of the graduating seniors. It definitely will be weird not seeing a lot of them next year because they've always been here. Even though I transfered in last spring, it still feels like I've known many of them for a long time. I am very grateful to know them all and hope that they find happiness and success outside of college. Good luck and don't forget about us here at WAC and remember to write and visit! To those of you leaving WAC, good luck going off to wherever you are going. I hope you find success there and the college you are going to will have everything you want. Again, don't forget about us here at WAC and all the friends you made here and all the great times we had. Always remember to write.

So ok,...

So ok, I definitely am going to scream with the education system. I got the calender for my education stuff and along with my fellow Ed blockers we all looked nauseous. I must admit it was very hilarious to see and witness, but also sad because I was right along there with them. I was hoping to be able to take Christina off somewhere next fall just for a weekend trip, but that definitely looks like it won't be happening. Though I will try and see if I can get a day off here or there and try to get it so we can do something. Also...if any of you ever are looking to eat some good bean dip, you should talk to Dr. O'Connor's wife. My god! This stuff was absolutely amazing!! Like we all were like praising her for it, you have no idea. Plus the view from Dr. O'Connors house is beautiful. If you stand in his kitchen and look out the back window, you can see the river and he has his own pier. It is absolutely the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, plus it was sunset and that over the river was very pretty.Ok well I should get ready for classes and all.

So I'm tota...

So I'm totally thinking my Historical Methods class is a waste of my time. I learned nothing about my thesis this semester, and we did nothing to prepare us to use our history majors outside of college. Yes, I'm going to be going into teaching, but still there should have been ideas given to us about possible historical jobs. Prof. O'Brien completely ruined the class and we all view it as a joke, which I think is sad. Everyone who is in Ed. Block with me next semester in the class all make fun of the class in our education classes and we just think it's the dumbest thing in the world. I mean how sad is this, we had so many library assignments this semester, which were nothing more than busy work. Also we watched some really odd movies and such. I mean we've learned in education classes that busy work is not something you should give your students because they get nothing out of it, and it's totally true. It just gets them to hate the class and view it as a joke. Then when the final comes around she puts all this stuff on it we never covered, so we all are like what in the world's going on here?! She is just a horrible Professor and I'm glad she is leaving after this semester. I mean her class was the easiest I've had ever and I know I definitely will get an A in it. But it's just a waste of my time and all.

Well W...

Well Writer's Theater has come and gone, and I kept my sanity! I'd like to send out a huge thank you to everyone who was involved with it. You guys totally made my life so easy and I had a great time. Thank you guys so much for just accepting me into the show and letting me boss you guys around (I hope not too much) and all. I definitely enjoyed myself so much. I hope that I'm not too busy next fall with my Ed. stuff to be around again. So thanks for a great time this semester. As you all can see, the show was a blast this weekend. I definitely enjoyed it, and if you weren't a part of the show and came to see it, I thank you as well. It definitely was great to have such interactive audiences who were into the whole routine for us. Well with the coming of this week means more education stuff, which is always SO FUN!!! *insert sarcasm* Seriously, the ed. block is cancer, and it's totally eating my life. Though I guess I can't complain, I have 15 other people with me and we all have no life outside of Dr. O'Connor's "Little Shop of Horror's" ... um Education Room. But I must admit it is fun, when we're all together goofing off, which is like...all the time.

I just began writing stuff down the other night, and this is what came out. Tell me what you guys think.Inner InsanityWe hear the sound of silence,it now completely surrounds us. Nothing can escape its cold grips, its unmerciful blood thirsty fingertips. With the hands wrapped around your heart, slowly your world begins to fall apart. You thus gaze into the depths of me,seeing all that you can see.Finding what it is you want, you steal it away;once you take it you plan to make it stay.I feel the void inside me now,my body torn, shattered, and resown.I know it is hard for you to comprehend, but you shall one day understand. On the day that you do, you will see the void inside. And from it, you cannot hide.Bitter EndThese words cut like daggers, they make me bleed slowly.I feel that I can heal, but I've lost too much blood. You stare at me with an evil smile, while I look up at you begging for your time.Turning away, I see my hope fade, and as you walk, my life goes with you.Child's Play40,000 heads nod as I speak. They all understand my "small squeak."The squeak you thought would one daydie, has no become a roar. With me comes the power and strength tomove mountains;but what you call power is nothing more than child's play. With my strength, I help others to grow, you destroy the strength I install in them. This destruction feeds your ego,yet your life is more like a lego.Destroying others helps build your pedestal, and it is built of nothing more than colored blocks,...all used for child's play.
